Potential T20 World Cup 2024 Schedule: 4-30 June in West Indies and USA

According to ESPNcricinfo ICC men's T20 World Cup is potentially scheduled from 4th to 30th June, 2024 in West Indies and USA.

 

The reoprts stated that an ICC delegation visited five of the shortlisted venues by USA. The locations include Morrisville, Dallas, Lauderhill in Florida and New York for tournament matches and warm-ups. It will be for the first time for these locations to hold a international global cricket event thus required to get international venue status by ICC.

 

The final decision regarding the venues will be made in a few months by ICC along with Cricket West Indies (CWI) and USA Cricket (USAC).

The upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024 will introduce a new format. Instead of the traditional first round followed by Super 12s, the 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five each for the initial stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8s. The Super 8 teams will be further divided into two groups of four each, and the top two teams from each group will compete in the semi-finals.

 

This week, Ireland, Scotland (Europe region), and Papua New Guinea East Asia-Pacific Region) secured their spots in the 20-team T20 World Cup through the ICC's regional qualifiers system. In the upcoming months, the qualifiers from the Americas (one spot), Africa (two spots), and Asia (two spots) regions will be decided.

Prior to the regional qualifications, twelve countries had secured their places in the competition. This group included the hosts West Indies and the United States, along with the top eight teams from the 2022 T20 World Cup: Australia, England, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Additionally, Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified based on their positions in the T20 rankings.
