Vice President Kamala Harris is set to go through a major challenge as she gears up for her first detailed campaign interview since being named the Democratic presidential candidate. The interview is set for Thursday with CNN as the pressure from Republicans increases after they accused her of dodging difficult questions.

Harris and her vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz, will join journalist Dana Bash during a campaign stop in Georgia. This joint appearance has raised eyebrows from the camp of Donald Trump, his spokesman has accused Harris of using Walz as a ‘human shield’.

The interview is Harris’s first extensive media appearance since Biden pulled out of the race on July 21 and since the DNC in Chicago. It also meets her promise made on August 8 to have an interview before the end of the month.

Harris’s team has stood to support the joint interview format arguing that it is a tradition that is practiced during the election year. However, Republicans have criticized that she has been rarely available to the media and therefore voters have not been informed of her policies.

The pressure is on for Harris, who has been criticized before for her behavior in off-the-cuff situations. This interview could define her campaign and influence the voters’ perception as the election draws near depending on how she handles it.

At the same time, ex-President Trump is also actively campaigning, he has planned his trips to Michigan and Wisconsin for the same day as the Harris’s interview.

As the 2024 election is far from being traditional, this interview is a perfect opportunity for Harris to explain her vision and to calm down the critics who doubt her ability to become a president.
