Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has made a plea to Prime Minister Modi, urging him to facilitate a parliamentary discussion concerning the ongoing issue in Manipur.
During the commencement of the Monsoon session of Parliament, the Former Leader of the Opposition of Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi initiated a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated that, in their interaction, she urged the Prime Minister to arrange for a discussion in the House regarding the current situation in Manipur. While talking about the brief conversation between the two leaders Chowdhury revealed to ANI, "He (the Prime Minister) said ok, I will see."
As the parliamentary session began, the leader exchanged customary greetings with each other. During this time, the Prime Minister had a brief conversation with the former Congress President when he reached the bench of the opposition leaders.

Adding to the urgency of the situation, a huge controversy arose in Manipur when a distressing video depicting two women being paraded naked came to light and was circulated widely. This shocking incident has led several opposition leaders to demand discussions on the prevailing situation in the state. The video is believed to have been recorded on May 4, just a day after ethnic clashes erupted in the northeastern region.
In response to the distressing video Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that he was filled with anguish. He called the incident a shameful act for any civilized society.
Assuring the nation, he said, "No accused will be spared, we will never forgive those who are behind this." During his conversation with reporters before the Monsoon session of Parliament, which commenced today, PM Modi said that this incident has put the nation to shame and those behind the incident would face severe consequences.

While urging all chief ministers to strengthen law and order, he said, "I appeal to all chief ministers to tighten law and order. Whether it is Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, or Manipur...the issue of a woman's honour is above all politics."
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the Manipur issue, criticising him for addressing the matter outside the House and not during the Monsoon session.
He said, "Today the Monsoon session has started, and at a time when the functioning of the House has begun, a member of the House making a statement outside the House, and that too on an issue like Manipur." Chowdhury added further, "I request PM Modi that you break your silence inside the House".
