Amidst heightened concerns, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed the Lok Sabha that 403 Indian students have lost their lives abroad since 2018. Canada leads in student deaths with 91, followed by the UK with 48. The government underscores the significance of ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian students overseas.

The data presented by Jaishankar reveals a breakdown of fatalities by country, with Canada, the UK, Russia, the US, Australia, Ukraine, and Germany reporting the highest numbers. Recent tragic events in the US, where four Indian or Indian-origin students lost their lives in January, add urgency to the matter.

The untimely deaths of Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, Neel Acharya, Vivek Saini, and Akul B Dhawan in the US highlight the immediate need for enhanced safety measures for Indian students abroad.
