President Droupadi Murmu has summoned Shiv Sena's MP Hemant Patil from the Eknath Shinde faction, compelling his appearance in Lok Sabha at 11 am on December 4. Following his resignation, Patil has abstained from participating in parliamentary activities.

Patil chose to resign subsequent to a meeting with Maratha activists who were demonstrating for reservation rights at Pofali Sugar Factory. In his resignation letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Patil emphasized his unwavering dedication to the Maratha community and farmers. He explicitly cited the unresolved reservation issue as the primary cause for his decision to step down.

The Maratha community's ongoing agitation for inclusion under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in government jobs and educational institutions gained momentum after quota activist Manoj Jarange's hunger strike in August. Jarange, through his protests, imposed deadlines on the government, urging immediate action regarding the Maratha quota, extending the ultimatum to December 24.

Comprising more than 30% of Maharashtra's populace, the Marathas have persistently campaigned for reservations in education and employment sectors. The fervent and prolonged agitation echoes the community's steadfast pursuit of fair representation within governmental domains.

President Murmu's summons to Hemant Patil, juxtaposed with his resignation following the Maratha reservation discussions, amplifies the gravity of the ongoing discourse. Patil's gesture, underscored by his commitment to community welfare, reflects the poignant significance of the unresolved reservation issue in Maharashtra's political landscape.

The Maratha community's fervor for equitable opportunities continues to resonate, propelling the demand for inclusivity in governmental sectors. Their persistent efforts remain a testament to the enduring pursuit of just and comprehensive representation for marginalized groups within the fabric of the state.
