The Asian Cricket Council on Thursday announced the scheduled for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

The 2023 edition of the Asia Cup, a prestigious cricket tournament, is scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 17. This edition will mark a historic change as it adopts a hybrid model, with matches taking place in both Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The participating teams include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, who will compete in a total of 13 thrilling One Day International (ODI) matches.

The tournament format consists of two groups, with two teams from each group advancing to the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then progress to the final, which will be held on September 17. In Pakistan, four matches will be hosted, while Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine matches.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) expressed its excitement about this edition and extended a warm welcome to cricket fans worldwide. It assured that the venues for the championship have been finalized, putting an end to any doubts or speculation. The ACC also acknowledged the complexities surrounding the participation of the Indian team, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing that the team would not travel to Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) understood the BCCI's position and agreed to hold matches in Pakistan as planned, with Sri Lanka serving as the neutral venue.

In the previous edition of the Asia Cup in 2022, Sri Lanka emerged victorious by defeating Pakistan in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India, however, could not advance to the final after suffering defeats against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super Four round.

Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB, expressed his delight over the acceptance of the hybrid model for the 2023 Asia Cup. He acknowledged that while fans would have loved to see the Indian cricket team play in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, he understood the BCCI's requirements for government approval before crossing borders. Consequently, Pakistan will retain its hosting rights for the matches, while Sri Lanka will serve as a neutral venue.
