The young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will replace MS Dhoni as the Chennai Super Kings captain prior to the start of the 2024 Indian Premier League season.

MS Dhoni steps down from Chennai Super Kings captain

Ruturaj has played in 52 IPL games since joining the Chennai Super Kings in 2019. He has recognised himself as animportant member of the squad. CSK issued the following statement after announcing the new captain: "The team is looking forward to the upcoming season."

The 42-year-old captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has five IPL championships to his name. He took home the trophy in 2023 following his team's loss to Gujarat Titans in the championship game played at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. After winning the championship, Dhoni declared he would be returning for the Indian Premier League 2024, therefore putting an end to any lingering rumors regarding his retirement. On August 15, 2020, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket after 15 years. India won the 2011 World Cup, the 2013 Champions Trophy, and the 2007 World T20 while he was captain.

Since joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the 2019 Indian Premier League auction, right-handed batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has displayed remarkable form and a high caliber of play on a regular basis. His technical skill and calm temperament have made him one of the team's most valuable starting hitters. Gaikwad's talents were essential to the Indian Premier League in 2023. He shown that he might be the team's future captain with 590 runs in 16 games. He was really important.

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has expressed his support for Gaikwad's selection as captain. Raina believes that Gaikwad would be a great contender to take over as CSK's captain once Dhoni's tenure there concludes due to their close connection. According to Raina, CSK has to use the 2024 Indian Premier League season to get ready for life under new management. He emphasized the significance of this season.

This leadership change will not be easy because CSK has experienced difficulties in the past with captaincy transitions. MS Dhoni was selected to take over as captain of the Indian Premier League squad in 2022 after Ravindra Jadeja resigned following just eight games. On and off the field, though, Gaikwad can lead CSK to greater heights under Dhoni's guidance, carrying on the legacy of one of cricket's greatest leaders ever.

In the 250 games he has played in the Indian Premier League, Dhoni has amassed 5,082 runs at an average of 38.79 with 24 half-centuries. As the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) get ready to defend their title in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), everyone will be watching Gaikwad, who will captain the team. March 22 in Chepauk, a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, will mark the start of the season. He wants the team to win more and more in the competitive Indian Premier League.
