The impending T20I series between India and Australia sees a leadership shift due to Hardik Pandya's injury, likely making Suryakumar Yadav the captain. Key players from the World Cup squad are expected to rest for the series.

In the wake of the World Cup 2023 final, India and Australia are poised for a swift transition into the T20I series commencing on November 23. Cricket Australia has already unveiled its roster, integrating six World Cup players. Conversely, Team India anticipates the inclusion of a secondary lineup due to several World Cup players resting. While typically, Hardik Pandya would helm the team, his injury sustained during the World Cup is likely to sideline him not only for the Australia series but also the subsequent South Africa tour, according to reports from the Indian Express.

Reports also suggest Suryakumar Yadav's potential ascension to captaincy for the upcoming T20I series against Australia. Having previously served as the vice-captain in the West Indies T20Is, Yadav stands as a strong candidate for the leadership mantle. Ruturaj Gaikwad, after leading to victory in the Asian Games, could be an alternative choice for captaincy if Yadav opts for rest.

However, Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna, integral members of the World Cup squad, are unlikely to take a break. Kishan's absence from recent matches since his impressive 47-run innings against Afghanistan might see Shubman Gill's return. Krishna's late inclusion in place of the injured Pandya will likely keep him in the squad for the upcoming series.

The T20I series itinerary includes matches in Vizag, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Nagpur, and Hyderabad, with Vizag hosting the opening game. As India prepares for this series against Australia, the transition in leadership marks a significant moment in the team's lineup strategy.
