Initially dismissing the excruciating abdominal pain and fatigue, the UK woman was given only 24 hours to live after getting diagnosed with Crohn's disease.

A 33 year old mother , Victoria Danson, from Chorley, Lancashire, attributed her symptoms to be stress-induced due to her demanding lifestyle of juggling two jobs and dismissed those.

She stated that when the pain intensified she seeked medical help and was desperate to get rid of the pain. She would do whatever it takes to do the same. The medical practitioners then diagnosed her with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) but the mother suspected it to be more severe.

After enduring the persistent pain and frequent doctor visits she underwent a colonoscopy to reveal the true nature of her disease-Crohn's disease.

What is Crohn's disease?

Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes swelling of the tissues (inflammation) in the gastrointestinal tract . It is most commonly caused in the small intestine.

Symptoms:

      Abdominal pain

      Severe diarrhea

      Fatigue

      Weight loss

      Malnutrition

Treatment:

Treated with medicines, bowel rest, and surgery. The goal of treatment is to decrease the inflammation in intestines, to prevent flare-ups of symptoms, and to keep one in remission.

An abscess developed in her abdomen leading to deadly sepsis and her condition took a turn for worse. When diagnosed she was given a grim prognosis of only 24 hours to live, necessitating urgency to remove the abscess resting on her ovaries by surgery.

18 inches of her bowel was removed by the doctors during operation, consequently receiving an ileostomy bag (a medical device used to collect waste from the small intestine after a surgical procedure).

Victoria's carefree lifestyle was scarred post surgery as she feared being different. As in this disease treatment can help, but the condition can't be cured thus she had to make significant dietary changes such as avoiding high-fiber foods, caffeine, and incorporating green tea and supplements into her diet to alleviate the symptoms.
