Huma Qureshi reflects on her extraordinary cinematic debut in Anurag Kashyap's iconic Gangs of Wasseypur. The two-part gangster drama not only transformed her world but also left her grappling with a sense of being "lost" following its release in 2012.

Anurag Kashyap's film Gangs of Wasseypur featured Manoj Bajpayee, Pankaj Tripathi, Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Richa Chadha.

As Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui showcased their brilliant performances in these critically acclaimed films, Huma Qureshi's talent shone through, propelling her into the limelight as a rising star. During an interview with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Huma delved into her journey as an actor, shedding light on the challenges she encountered along the way.

Reflecting on her early success, Huma Qureshi expressed, "I had my first taste of success quite early in my career. Perhaps it was the excitement of stepping out of my comfort zone and pursuing acting, and then Gangs of Wasseypur happened. I had moved to Mumbai in 2010, and by 2012, the film was released, becoming a massive hit in India. It was a transformative experience for me. Interestingly, for that film, I was paid a mere Rs 75,000. It wasn't a grand affair, but now I'm working with Viacom 18, who were the producers. That was my first film, and it laid the foundation for my journey."

Huma Qureshi expressed, "I had my first taste of success quite early in my career.

In those days, there were no luxurious five-star hotels or the luxury of vanity vans, nor a horde of people constantly surrounding you. It was a group of individuals who embarked on a three-month journey to Varanasi, shot their scenes, and returned. Nobody truly comprehend what was unfolding during that time. So, when the film finally premiered, it was a surreal moment for me. I couldn't help but exclaim, "Whoa! Am I the lead in this film? Is that my face on the billboard?! Should I have received a higher payment? Is this the way movies are made?" The experience left me contemplating the inner workings of the industry and the path to success.

Gangs of Wasseypur held a profound significance for Huma Qureshi as she described it as a "special experience" that truly transformed her life. However, despite its tremendous success, she found herself grappling with a sense of being "lost." Huma candidly revealed that when the film was released and emerged as a massive hit, she didn't fully comprehend the magnitude of what was happening around her. It was a whirlwind that engulfed her, leaving her unsure and bewildered about the sudden turn of events.
