In Kashmir, a frigid morning dawned as temperatures plummeted below freezing, affecting various regions in the valley. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced a minimum temperature of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, notably 1.2 degrees below the seasonal norm, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. Additionally, the city's maximum temperature saw a decrease, recording 12.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The cold wave intensified in Shopian, emerging as the coldest location in the valley, with temperatures plunging to minus 3.8 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam, situated in south Kashmir, ranked as the second coldest area, with the mercury dropping to minus 2.6 degrees Celsius. In north Kashmir, Bandipora recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg reported minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.

A dense fog enveloped Srinagar early in the morning, significantly reducing visibility and causing disruptions for commuters navigating the city. The adverse weather conditions added to the challenges faced by residents as they grappled with the freezing temperatures.

The forecast for the upcoming 48 hours indicates a continuation of dry weather throughout the valley. The persistent cold wave underscores the need for residents to brace themselves for freezing conditions as the winter chill takes hold. The abrupt drop in temperatures has transformed the landscape of Kashmir, painting a picture of frosty mornings and chilly days ahead.
