WhatsApp, owned by Meta, recently brought a significant update to its web version, introducing Status Updates, akin to Stories found on other platforms. This new feature empowers users to share photos and videos as updates, visible through a distinct green ring around their display picture, prompting viewer interaction.

The testing phase for this feature primarily involves beta users, a move reported by WABetainfo. This testing phase is particularly impactful for individuals who utilize WhatsApp web on their desktops, catering to multitasking needs.

Accessing this feature demands the WhatsApp web beta version 2.2353.59. Positioned between the communities and channels tab, it resides prominently at the top-left corner of the interface, easily accessible for users.

The versatility of WhatsApp Status on the web provides users with varied options. Whether by clicking the + icon on the Status tab or tapping the corresponding icon near their profile picture on the app, users can seamlessly share updates in different formats.

Users can share their Status updates in diverse formats, including photos, videos, and text. This expansion echoes the success of Stories across platforms, prompting Meta to integrate similar features across their apps like Facebook and WhatsApp. While currently in beta, this hints at a potential full-scale rollout in the future.

Additionally, Meta-owned WhatsApp is experimenting with a music-sharing feature during video calls. This innovation aims to enhance user experience by enabling shared music enjoyment during virtual conversations, reminiscent of Apple's SharePlay feature in FaceTime calls.
