Delhi Police has filed an FIR against unidentified individuals for a viral deepfake video featuring actress Rashmika Mandanna. The investigation is underway, with support from the Delhi Commission for Women and government advisory. The incident highlights challenges posed by emerging technologies, emphasizing the need for robust legal frameworks in the digital realm.

In a recent turn of events, Delhi Police has initiated legal action following the viral deepfake video featuring popular actress Rashmika Mandanna. The FIR, registered on Friday, November 10, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act, is aimed at unidentified individuals responsible for creating and circulating the deceptive video.

Teams have been mobilized, and an investigation is underway at the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police's Special Cell to trace the origins of the controversial video. The Delhi Commission for Women has also intervened, issuing a notice to the city police urging prompt action against the culprits.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY) swiftly responded to the incident by issuing an advisory to social media platforms. This advisory underscores the legal regulations governing deepfakes and warns of potential consequences associated with their creation and dissemination.

The government advisory cites Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000, emphasizing punishment for cheating by personation using a computer resource. The potential penalty includes imprisonment for up to three years and a fine extending up to one lakh rupees.

Amidst this digital chaos, Rashmika Mandanna, known for her pan-India presence, continues to make headlines on the professional front. Her upcoming film "Animal," directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor, is scheduled to release on December 1.
