In a significant legal development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi confirmed in the Delhi High Court that he had deleted a tweet from 2021, alleged to have disclosed the identity of a 9-year-old rape victim. The acknowledgment occurred during a PIL petition hearing seeking legal action against Gandhi.

Advocate Tarannum Cheema, representing Gandhi, emphasized the tweet's removal not only within India but globally, a fact corroborated by Twitter's lawyer. This confirmation underscored the international impact of the tweet's removal.

Responding to the PIL, the Delhi Police presented a sealed cover report detailing the FIR against Rahul Gandhi in September 2021. The report emphasized the ongoing investigation status, shedding light on the legal proceedings surrounding the case.

These submissions took place before a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora. The court actively heard the PIL petition, adding a layer of complexity to the legal proceedings surrounding Rahul Gandhi and the alleged identity disclosure.

The case in question involved the rape and death of a 9-year-old Dalit girl in Delhi Cantonment in 2021. The priest and three others allegedly committed the heinous acts at a crematorium. Rahul Gandhi's involvement drew attention when he visited the victim's parents, leading to a National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) complaint.

As the court disposes of the PIL petition, the ramifications of this case highlight the delicate intersection of legal, ethical, and political considerations regarding sensitive issues like sexual assault and victim privacy.
