On Sunday, ISRO announced that the GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) launch vehicle, which effectively launched the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, successfully executed a scheduled Orbit Reduction Maneuver to bring it into closer proximity to the moon. ISRO plans to perform a similar maneuver on August 9th.

"The spacecraft successfully underwent a planned orbit reduction maneuver. The retrofiring of engines brought it closer to the Moon's surface, now to 170 km x 4313 km.

The next operation to further reduce the orbit is scheduled for August 9, 2023, between 13:00 and 14:00 Hrs. IST.", the space agency tweeted.

Having journeyed around two-thirds of the way to the Moon from its launch, the Chandrayaan-3 probe seamlessly entered lunar orbit on Saturday, as confirmed by ISRO.

As Chandrayaan-3 gets one more step closer to the moon the landing is scheduled on 23rd August, 2023. After touchdown, it will function for a single lunar day, lasting roughly 14 days on Earth. The duration of one day on the Moon is equivalent to two weeks on earth.
