The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken action in response to recent reports concerning GNSS signal disturbances in the Middle East airspace. The aviation watchdog's circular addresses these concerns, emphasizing the need for preventive measures. It advises airlines and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on tackling the emerging threats from GNSS interference.

Recent incidents have raised alarms about potential spoofing and jamming of navigation systems in civilian aircraft flying over certain Middle Eastern regions. To combat this, DGCA's circular outlines comprehensive mitigation strategies. It stresses the collaboration between aircraft operators, pilots, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP), and air traffic controllers. The circular mandates the development of contingency plans in partnership with equipment manufacturers and the evaluation of operational risks through safety assessments.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the DGCA's advisory circular educates stakeholders on GNSS interference's impact on both aircraft and ground-based systems. It underscores the need for coordinated efforts among ANSP and DGCA for effective threat monitoring and analysis. The circular also integrates recommendations from experts and international aviation guidelines to address these emerging challenges.

In light of the uncertainties posed by GNSS interference, the DGCA aims to provide clear guidance and a practical roadmap for stakeholders. By offering actionable plans, the circular seeks to enhance the safety of airspace navigation systems, vital for ensuring aircraft safety during flights.

The aviation industry faces significant challenges due to these emerging threats, and DGCA's circular serves as a crucial step in safeguarding aircraft navigation systems from potential interference.
